Glasto round up

Glasto round up

Read post

So as many of you know, one of the biggest music events in the entire world took place this past weekend. A place where you can go and see legends like Lionel Richie, Patti Smith, The Who and Paul Weller – to name but a few!
Every single year I curse myself for failing to get tickets and promise myself I will next time – but what can a broke sister do?! Anyways, seeing as it’s such a big event and it combines everything I love in to one muddy, exciting package I thought that I would do a little round up of the weekend’s events and share with you some of my favourite acts and fashion from the days past.

Okay, the first thing I have to discuss is the artist that has caused perhaps the most controversy EVER leading up to his headlining slot on Saturday – Kanye West. Now I’m actually a huge Kanye fan anyway so maybe I’m a tiny bit biased, but I thought he came out on the stage and just completely smashed it. I was actually watching it with my sister at the time, who is in no means a fan of Kanye whatsoever, and she just kept saying “oh I actually like this one”. I don’t think people really realised how many good songs he’s actually had. The way he takes older songs and remixes them to make them his own (with the likes of Stronger, Touch the sky etc.) came across really well in front of a huge crowd because it meant that a lot of people could at least recognise and enjoy the tunes if nothing else.

Another reason why Glastonbury is such an amazing event is because it really showcases a lot of new, amazing talent that you may not hear about otherwise. It’s a great way to discover new music and this weekend I discovered Alabama Shakes. I know I’m actually a tad late to catch the train with this one because I have heard a lot about them in the past, but I've never really sat and truly listened to them before, so when I caught them on BBC3 on Friday I thought that I would check them out properly. If you've never heard of them before, their music is American style Rock with a hint of blues and they are MARVELLOUS. They’re whole style screams retro with inspiration from 50s, 60s and 70s rock but there is something so refreshing about them that makes them feel fresh & modern. If you are interested in checking them out you can here (I promise they’re really good despite my awful description).

Finally, I could not publish this post without discussing Prides. Anyone who knows me
personally is aware that I talk about this band all the time so I was so excited to see that the BBC actually have their full set online. I actually just watched the whole thing this very morning before writing this! I was kind of nervous before watching it, in the sense that because I’m a huge fan I didn’t want to discover that they were disappointing when it came to performing live- but it turns out my worries were all for nothing. Their electro-pop style is perfect for a mid-day dance party! They were loud and energetic and their upbeat, chant-y songs are perfect for a live performance. Only one downside though, I WISH I WAS THERE!

Every single year the fashion at Glastonbury knocks it out of the park, but this year these 3 fashion icons were my headliners. All 3 perfectly embody the effortlessly cool look that sums up Glastonbury to a T.

Aaand that's it for another year folks! Feel free to comment what you enjoyed/didn't enjoy about this year's Glastonbury festival. Who were your favourite artists this year?

So it's now officially Summer time, but lone behold we have no money and we know that many people are in the same boat! So we've decided to dedicate a blog post to some of last year's trends that we would definitely wear again!

Vintage mom jeans were one of our favourite items of clothing last Summer (and have been ever since). These MOTO ones from Topshop look perfect rolled up a little at the bottom and paired with any kind of flatform shoe!
We love how they look with a cropped roll neck top that shows the high-waistedness of the jeans and a chunky chain to give the outfit the 90's feel that is so popular these days.

Now, cleated shoes have been, like, EVERYWHERE so we thought that we would follow the crowd and buy some last Summer to see what all the hype is about. Our verdict is that, as well as being super comfy and so easy to walk in due to the platform at the front, these shoes also make a casual outfit look more dressed up and a dressed up outfit look more casual making them perfect for all occasions! We just think they look so quirky and stylish, and we would definitely wear them again this Summer.

Here are some ideas of what to pair them with:

Thank you for reading! Feel free to share some of the trends from last year that you would wear again and again!

1. What are your favourite series' to watch on Netflix?
Abby: American Horror Story, The Office US, Switched At Birth, Once Upon A Time, Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl... the list is endless!!
Kayleigh: The Office US is literally the best TV show I have ever watched on Netflix and off! It's my definite go to series.

2. What are you currently watching on Netflix?
A: Orange is the new black of course! Also, pretty little liars & switched at birth :)
K: Pretty Little Liars

3. If you could have any series, old or new on Netflix, what would it be?
A: True Blood. I've always wanted to watch it the whole way though but don't want to pay for it on DVD! Netflix, if you're reading, help a sister out?
K: Parks & Recreation (although it is on the US version, why not UK?!)

4. What is your one peeve about Netflix?
A: I hate how the content is restricted by countries. We all pay the same amount so we should be able to access all the same shows and movies. It really annoys me.

5. What are your essentials for a perfect night with Netflix?
A: Candles + Popcorn/crisps/chocolate... just a lot of food really + friends = a great night. Also, depending on the mood of the film/show I quite like chucking a glass of wine or big mug of tea into the mix!
K: A nice comfy sofa/bed & a viewing buddy!

6. Recommend one series or film for someone else?
A: Switched at birth (US Netflix). There's just something about this show that got me hooked.
K: I would definitely recommend watching the old school films because they're just so cool (Pretty in Pink, Say Anything etc), as well as RuPaul's drag race because it's hilare.

7. Name a series on Netflix you keep meaning to watch but haven't yet?

A: There are a tonne of Netflix original series that look so good! Sense 8 & Between look really interesting, I just haven't got round to watching them yet :)
K: I keep meaning to properly start watching Orange is the new black but I just haven't yet!

8. Did you discover anything awesome because of Netflix?

A: Netflix has definitely introduced me to a lot of shows that I wouldn't have nessecirily watched if they were on TV. I think it's great at...
K: The Office US and RuPaul's drag race for sure. They have fast become my favourite TV series'.

9. What is your favourite film on Netflix?

A: Bloody hell, that's a tough one. Erm.. I don't really have a favourite but whenever i'm stuck on what to watch I always go to an Adam Sandler film, it's my weakness!!
K: Say Anything

The Body Shop Haul

The Body Shop Haul

Read post

We've recently been on a quest to really refresh our skin so we decided to take advantage of a recent promotion that The Body Shop had and treat ourselves to some skincare goodies!
We'd love to hear if any of you have tried any of these products or have any that you would recommend.

This has fast become my favourite make-up removal product. In case you haven't heard of this before, it's a butter textured cleanser that removes make up with the help of a muslin cloth/flannel. The consistency and texture of this cleansing butter makes removing make-up something to look forward to! This can be used to remove all make-up, including eyes, but I prefer to remove all my eye make up first, not because this won't do the job, but because otherwise it means smudging mascara all over my cheeks. A little of this product goes a long way which is good as normally £12 on a make-up removal product would be a big no no for me & my student adjusted mind. If you're wanting to try something new I would 100% recommend this to anyone, however if a butter cleanser isn't up your ally try the camomile cleansing oil, I also have this and rate both these products on the same level.

This is another amazing make up removal product which I use alongside the cleansing butter. This eye make up remover is made specifically to target waterproof eye & lip make up which is great in Spring time with the constant spring showers forcing us girlies to coat our lashes in the most waterproof of waterproof mascaras out there! This product is great for removing tough mascaras such as Benefits 'They're real!' & Maybellines 'The Falsies' and leaves your eyes feeling hydrated even after all traces of your eye make up has been removed!

I purchased this product when my skin was in dire need of some TLC. Recently my skin has been as dry as a nun's.... well, you catch my drift and I just can't stand it! There's nothing worse than putting foundation on and seeing it cling to all the dry patches that are dotted about the place, it makes me feel so self conscious. It is suggested that this product is to be used at night, although I use it whenever my skins needs a bit of extra moisture, and targets any dry skin in order to make skin feel and look fresh & recharged. Another handy tip, the lady in the shop recommended that if I wanted a more dewy/glowing look in the day then I should add a drop of this to my foundation. I will mention that although it says it's non-greasy it does have quite a heavy residue that stays on the skin, so if you're someone who like quick absorption then this may not be for you. Again, a little goes a long way with this product so don't go too crazy, you don't want to be wasting these little drops of skin magic!

This is a great product to use alongside the overnight serum, not only because it's the same range, but because this is great for morning/day time use as it's light weight and isn't greasy... perfect for spring/summer really! This is a great moisturiser for those suffering from dry/dull skin as it really hydrates and refreshes skin. I will just warn you that for the price the size of the pot is rather small. I don't know if I'll re-purchasing this product as I have found that it does the same job as my old faithful (Nivea) and is almost double the price but half the size!

This product is specifically designed for those with oily/spot prone skin. We both purchased this product because lets face it, everyone has those days where your skin just isn't loving life, and for the price we jumped at the chance to try something new. The tea tree in this product is very strong & gives a bit of a sting, which we think is quite nice as it feels like it's actually doing something. However, this can be extremely drying to the skin and so we only reccommend that you use this when you're experiencing any spots or blemishes as it's perfect for drying them out and getting rid!

We both bought this face scrub with the intention of minimizing pores. It basically does what it says on the tin and there has been a noticeable difference in the size of our pores. The exfoliating factor of this scrub is amazing as it really feels like it's getting in all those nooks and crannies! BUT it is very drying on the skin. If you have dry skin, it's a definite no go. It's probably better suited for those with slightly oily skin but otherwise, it kind of leaves your skin looking a bit flaky and feeling rather sensitive.

So I had a little panic not too long ago when I was putting on some finishing powder and I realised that my foundation had set right in to my pores, not a good look! This then led me to become concerned about how very visible my pores had become, so I was desperate to find something that would make me feel better about it. When we went in to the bodyshop it was so easy to find the collection that targeted pores so I decided to get this and I'm so glad I did. I use this every single day before I put on make up and after moisturiser, just like you would a primer and it makes a serious difference. It makes pores appear smaller and makes make up go on so much smoother. I would definitely recommend this (as well as the tea tree face wash from the same collection) if you have oily skin because it's really good at balancing out the skin and keeping make up on for longer.

This face mask is ideal for if you have oily skin. We love putting it on if our pores are feeling especially clogged because it's perfect for drawing out all of the impurities in the skin. It's a really nice consistency and feels nice on the skin because it's almost as though you can feel it working. The only thing we would say is that because it is quite strong, it leaves your skin feeling quite sensitive afterwards so it's best to be careful when rubbing your face with a towel after taking it off because it leaves your face quite red. For that reason, it's probably best to do it only once a week or once every two weeks.

Are there any Body Shop products that you would reccommend? :D

10 things to do when you're sad...

10 things to do when you're sad...
Friday, 12 June 2015
Read post

1) Pamper yourself:
Possibly our favourite thing to do when we’re feeling a bit down (usually when it’s ‘that’ time of the month) is to have a good old pamper session. We’re talking hair masks, face masks, nail painting… the lot! Just light a few candles, whack on some nourishing goodies and you’re all set. Recently we’ve been loving the Seaweed Ionic Face Mask from The Body Shop for refreshing our face, as well as the Bleach London Reincarnation Hair Mask for a nice bit of hair TLC. Afterwards, finishing off a pamper session with a nice, long, hot bubble bath is sure to relax you. Just pour yourself a glass of wine and sink in to bubble heaven.

2) Listen to music:
Music is scientifically proven to ease anxiety, stress and even improve heart health. If you’re feeling sad, why not try making a playlist on Spotify full of songs that are guaranteed to cheer you up. Here’s a list of our go-to songs:

3) Watch one of your favourite TV shows/movies:
If we’re not in the mood to listen to music, one thing that’s sure to cheer us up is watching a Disney film. No matter what the circumstance, you can never go wrong with a Disney film! Snuggling up in bed with a cup of tea, some snacks and a handsome (cartoon) prince is a sure fire way to get rid of the blues!

4) Phone a friend:

Although there are times when it’s better to be alone, knowing that someone is there to talk to always makes us feel better. Sometimes it’s just nice to offload your worries by saying them out loud to someone that you can trust. Even if you don’t want to talk about your troubles, talk about something that will take your mind off of them, like how fit Harry Styles is or what music you’ve been listening to recently.

5) Get some fresh air:
It’s proven that exercise releases endorphins which make you feel happier, BUT we don’t know many people who are motivated to go to the gym when they’re feeling down. If you’re one of those people (like us) who don’t really fancy doing a two hour leg session when you’re happy let alone sad, then why not try just going for a nice relaxing walk. Getting some fresh air can give a fresh perspective and is better for you than staying cooped up inside for long periods of time.

6) Have a spring clean:
Now this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but cleaning when you’re feeling a bit crappy is actually a really good way to cheer yourself up. Use your time to clean out old clothes that are causing clutter and you’re certain to feel so much better when it’s all done. And you know what they say, clean room = clean mind.

7) Read some motivational quotes:
This is something that we love doing most days anyway just for a bit of everyday motivation but it’s especially nice to do when feeling gloomy. Pinterest is a great place to find loads of lovely quotes from films, songs or just general intelligent people. It might even be a good idea to print some out and stick them on your wall or share them on Instagram/twitter for someone else to see.

8) Make lists:
writing lists is such a relaxing thing to do. If you have a journal, write down 10 things that have made you smile in the past week or 10 things that you want to achieve in the next week. Highlighting positivity in the form of lists is a great thing to do and will show you that it’s not all bad.

9) Just Breathe:
In this technological age, everything can get a bit fast paced and it’s easy to get too caught up in keeping up with every single thing that’s going on around you. It’s important to take the time to JUST BREATHE. Maybe turn your phone off (or on aeroplane mode at least) and just relax for a while. A lot of people talk about how effective yoga and meditation are, so maybe try that if you fancy it, but if not, it’s still important to separate yourself from everything else going on sometimes.

10) Smile:
When you smile it resonates within you and cheers you up, even if it’s only a tiny bit. Even if you feel completely stupid doing it, the least it will do is make you laugh at yourself and laughing is definitely better than crying.

Are you a festival virgin? Or perhaps you can't remember your last festival thanks to a little friend called Jack Daniels. Well have no fear! We've put together a mini survival guide on the do's and don'ts of festival living.

DO go and see artists you've never heard of before. Festivals are a perfect opportunity to discover some new music (plus when they get popular you'll be able to say "oh yeah I seen them back in..").

DO get the most out of your weekend. A lot of people go to festivals purely for the party, and that is fine. But we really don't see the point in paying £250 and not getting anything out of it but a raging 3-day hangover and a few bad memories. We recommend going to see as many bands as you can, that way you're getting your moneys worth.

DO go with people that have a similar music taste to you. It just saves arguing about which bands to go and see and it means you'll never be on your own.

DO take all the things your mum says, even if you think they're a waste of space. We're talking hand sanitiser, plasters, paracetamol, tissues, toilet roll.

DO sneak some water in, forget about the price of alcohol, water is £6 a bottle... talk about human rights!

DO take a few disposable cameras. You don't want to be carrying around expensive cameras or phones so why not just take a few cheapo disposable cameras that are much more fun..
you never know what'll come out!

DO treat your fellow campers with a little respect. If you're not going to invite them to the party then the least you can do is keep the volume down & try not to fall on their tents.

DO get there early. There's nothing more of a buzz kill than waiting in line for 4 hours to get in. It's better to be prepared, get there early, cut queues and start the fun!

DON'T take drinks off strangers.. even if they are the spitting image of Johnny Depp.

DON'T think that £50 is enough. It's not.

DON'T bother taking loads of make up, if in doubt just cover your face in glitter & paint.. it saves on packing space and is way more exciting.

DON'T go to a festival and camp with a brand new tent. Have a little practice in your garden a few days before.. your Dad won't be there to help when it really counts.

DON'T pack like you're going to London Fashion Week. Yes, festival fashion is all over the magazines but this is British Summer time we're talking about, there will be rain and there will be mud. You don't want to be ruining your designer gear when you can look just as good in high-street clobber!

DON'T go if it's not for you. It might seem glamorous on the BBC coverage, but it's really not. It's dirty, people smell, full of crowds, no proper way to wash, you'll most likely be hungover and you have to sleep in a tent. If this sounds like your worst nightmare- it's not even worth contemplating going to a festival.

DON'T forget the sun cream. It's so easy to do but having sunburn on top of a hangover and greasy hair is not ideal. Just take a bottle of factor 30, whack some on in the morning and cut your losses.

DON'T be the one that takes it too far. If you go over the top on drink and/or drugs and your friends have to end up looking after you, they will resent you. Don't waste yours and their time by going over the odds.

It's that time of the month again folks (the good time, not THAT that time), can you believe it's June already?! Anyway, we've rounded up our favourite things from the past month to share with you. Feel free to comment anything that you've been loving this month because we love to try out new products! Enjoy...

Mac Mineralize Concealer - £17.99
I’ve had this concealer for a while but for some reason didn’t use it very often. This month I decided to start incorporating it in to my every day make-up routine and couldn’t be happier with it! The one that I have has a slightly red-ish undertone so it’s perfect for covering up dark under eyes and making me look at least half awake. It’s just a really nice, creamy concealer that leaves a natural finish. It’s so easy to blend and a little bit does go a long way so even though it is quite pricey for a concealer, it lasts a long time.

Mac Honeylove Lipstick - £15.50 & Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lipliner in Spice - £2.99
There's been a lot of hype around nude lips and lipliner recently so I thought that I would get in on the trend a little bit and see what all the fuss was about. I originally wanted to get the Mac lip pencil in Soar (as that's apparently what Kylie Jenner wears on her lips) but every time I went to order it, it was out of stock. Alas, after searching the internet I heard that the Rimmel lipliner in Spice was a good dupe and at only £2.99 I could't really complain. After using it for a while, I absolutely love it! The lip pencil has amazing staying power, I find that it stays on all day without needing touched up at all, not to mention it's an absolutely gorgeous colour that goes perfectly with Honeylove. It's literally unbelievable considering how cheap it is! I love these two paired together, I've worn it pretty much every day for the past 2 weeks and have had so many compliments on it.

Schwarzkopf Beach Matt Texturizing Salt Spray - £4.19
Now that it’s nearing summer, I’m loving the messy, beach waves look. This product is ideal for achieving that ‘just come out the sea, tail transformed in to legs, I’m actually a mermaid’ look! I spray it on towel dried hair and tousle the ends a bit and then leave my hair to dry naturally rather than blow dry. It just creates a lovely wave with lots of nice texture. I would definitely recommend this for anyone going on holiday because it’s prefect for casual, summer looks.

Duster Jackets
Seeing as how it’s Spring now, we were looking for something a little bit lighter to wear when going out shopping or to lunch. But, because the weather in England is so temperamental, you never know how warm it’s actually going to be outside. This month we’ve found that duster jackets are the perfect in-between because they’re not too heavy but they also keep you warm if the weather does turn a bit breezey. We actually bought these matching ones from Topshop (yes we do wear them at the same time, and yes it has been commented on) and we just absolutely love them. The colours are perfect for this time of year and they’re just a really nice staple for any wardrobe!

Makers of Wax Goods Candle in Cherrywood & Cassis - £5.99
Now I'm not really a candle connoisseur but I am in to weird fragrances like wood and leather etc and was yet to find a candle that smelt like either of those. I came across this one in TK MAXX (unfortunately it's not on their website but there might be some in stores) and was drawn to it because I thought it looked pretty cool and would look nice on my fireplace, but when I smelt it I instantly fell in love. It smells really earthy like wood but with an underlay of something sweet (sorry I'm so bad at describing scents). I've never smelt anything like it before, it's so delicious! From what I've gathered online M of W.G do other interesting scents like Leather and Moss which is amazing for people who don't just want your average Cinnamon or White Cotton flavours.

This is quite a strange one but we thought that we would include it anyway. Now that it's Summer time it's nice to have flowers around the house to keep things looking bright and fresh. Some of our favourite flowers are tulips because they just looks so colourful and pretty sitting on a desk. A nice bunch of flowers can just cheer up a room completely!

CHANEL SOLEIL TAN DE CHANEL Bronze Universal Bronzing Makeup Base - £32.00

I have wanted to try this product for as long as I can remember but the price has always put me off. For me, £32 could buy a weeks food shop, a months worth of water & internet... but sometimes you just gotta spend some money on the things you want otherwise life gets really boring! Anyways, lets get back to the actual product. This product is exactly what it says it is, a base. I put this product on after applying my foundation and before I conceal, highlight and set. It gives the face such a warm glow and is perfect for the coming summer months! After applying my whole base and setting it I then go in with a powder bronzer to add more definition. I apply this using my real techniques stippling brush and then blend it out using a Primark stippling brush. Before buying this I read so many blog posts and watched loads of YouTube reviews to find out what brush to use, but everyone recommended something different so I think you just have to work it out for yourself & find what works best for you. This is the perfect product for someone who is dedicated to their contouring and loves a distinct and defined look. If you're looking to splurge this June then I would recommend giving this beauty a go!

We dedicated a whole blog post to these little wonders (click here) & cannot get enough of them! They're a little pricey for what you get, which ultimately is just a little red piece of plastic, however they help you get one step closer to bigger, better lips!

Switched at Birth - US Netflix
I have been love love loving this show! It's only available on the US Netflix which I know isn't very convenient but there are ways around this... enough said. Anyways! This show is based around two girls who discover they have been switched at birth and so connect with each other and their families. This show broaches many controversial issues, with one of the main characters being deaf it really allows the audience to understand the problems that some deaf people face and how they overcome/overcompensate for them. I must warn you, at first this show can come off a bit amateur but I have been hooked from episode one and with 4 seasons to go cannot wait to see what happens. If you love shows like One Tree Hill & 90210 then you should give this show a watch... Oh, and it's got Austin Butler in it which is enough of a reason!

Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck
Now I’ve never been a massive fan of Nirvana- probably because I just assumed they were overhyped like a lot of bands are- but this docufilm intrigued me. It’s so interesting to see what this incredibly famous person was actually like behind the front that celebrities are often forced to put on for the media. The documentary doesn’t put him on a pedestal like people would expect from it, it just shows the realness of his life and what he was really like through interviews with people closest to him and never before seen footage of his home life, as well as real entries from his diary. It’s a really engaging film, even if you aren’t necessarily a fan of his music, it demonstrates not only how troubled Kurt Cobain was, but also how intelligent he was too and I was completely absorbed from beginning to end.

So you're at a festival it's hot, sweaty, humid, muddy, noisy, bustling with people and you're as drunk as a sailor... hair might be the last thing on your mind when you're fighting your way to the front of the crowd to try and get a better view of Mumford & Sons, Clean Bandit and Chase & Status. We thought we'd put together a few simple hair looks that might inspire or help out a few of you this festival season! :)

This is the perfect hairstyle for a hot day, when you're going to be walking for miles and jumping around to all the sickniiiiiiiing tunes! It keeps all your hair off your face and up out of the way... unless you decide to enter a mosh pit, then there really is no secure hairstyle for you.
We're loving 2 little messy buns at to the side of your head, it's super cute and so easy to do!
Just be careful if you bring a visitor back to your tent that there isn't any kirby grips lying around because that might be a bit uncomfortable!

Half up-half down

This is a really cool, 90's look that seems to be really popular right now. It's also pretty ideal if you want to keep your hair out of your face but still want to show off your luscious locks.

If you're considering showcasing this look this Summer, we recommend a splash of sea salt spray to add texture and make it look as though you've just washed up on the beach (as a mermaid, not a whale LOL).

What better way to bond in your tiny tent, with the smell of day old beer surrounding you, than helping your girlfriend out and giving each other some pretty braids!
This is just a really easy, fuss free way to style your hair when you want to look nice but can't be bothered putting too much effort in (especially if you're hungover!).
For a really 'hippy' feel, we love having wavy hair with one or two braids at either side (like picture 3).

Hair accessories

There's no better way to mix your look up than adding a hair accessory to an otherwise ordinary look. You can usually get away with a lot more at festivals than you might down at your local supermarket and so why not make the most of this?!
A bandanna always looks really rock n roll and is actually a good way of hiding 3-day-old, greasy hair!
This year, we're particularly loving head chains (?) though, they look so cute and elegant but we're not sure they'd be appropriate for head banging!
