I don't think there's a single person in the world that fully knows what they're doing.
You assume when you're younger that by the time you reach your twenties you'll have a full blown career, a house and you'll basically be a fully fledged adult - but let's be honest 9 times out of 10 that's not the case. Realistically you'll probably spend your twenties (early twenties at least) starting a career and being torn between wanting to grow up faster and not wanting to grow up at all. Half the time I'm excited about the prospect of the future but a lot of the times I feel overly nostalgic about the past. I'm currently trying to navigate this in-between place that comes with being in your early twenties and it's been tough tbh, but there is nothing more rewarding than getting that occasional feeling that you're doing something right. As I write this I have the house to myself, I'm sitting on the sofa with my washing on, my (healthy!!) dinner cooking having just finished a day of work and I have this happy feel like I've got my shit together. Admittedly, this feeling never stays long but when it comes I love it! I love feeling like I've got my shit together.
Here are a few things that make me feel like an adult even though it makes no sense:
- Making my lunch for work every day
- Listening to podcasts/audio books
- Eating healthy
- Writing lists
- Drinking wine
- Drinking coffee
- Going out for lunch or dinner rather than getting pissed
I wrote a blog post not too long ago about how I was finding it hard to get a job in the field that I wanted and how I was getting downhearted about the entire thing, fast forward to now (5 months later) and I have a job that I love doing exactly what I want to do. It feels cliche AF to say, but a lot of the time everything actually does turn out alright in the end, you just kinda have to have faith that it will.
So now, almost half a year after my previous, pretty bleak life update, I guess all I have to say is that things are looking up!
Let me know what you've been up to & if you like these kinds of posts :-)
xoxo Kayleigh
