5 ways to change your life this year!

Lets be honest, how many times have we said this to ourselves on a New Years day? Myself and Abby have definitely had our fair share of broken New Years resolutions but this year we're thinking, why not take the steps to improve our lives? It sounds so incredibly cliché, but the only person that is stopping us from living the life that we want to live is ourselves. So, lets start this year a fresh!
Here are 5 steps that we are going to take to make this year the best it can be, we hope that it will inspire some of you or at the very least you will enjoy reading it!

STEP 1: ORGANISATION
Paperchase £4.50
There is nothing more relaxing than knowing that your time, environment and self is organised. This year we plan on keeping diaries in order to make sure that our time is completely organised. That way we can keep an eye on when assignments are due and plan when we have time to draft blog posts.
There's no need to go over the top crazy writing down every single thing that you have to do every day of the year, but just jotting down important things will help you to remember to do them (also it's so embarrassing double-booking on people so it will help with that too!)

STEP 2: HEALTHY EATING
Personally, we hate that stupid four letter word that begins with a D and ends in IET. Every single year we decide to make 'dieting' our new years resolution, but it's just so dang hard to stick to so we never last!
This year, we're going to start eating healthy, NOT DIETING! We need to change the way we think about food overall to become more healthy, not just eat nothing but leaves temporarily until we've lost as much weight as we want and then start eating unhealthily again.

Now we are literally the worst at this whole healthy thing because we're suckers for crisps and cakes (as many people are) but here are 3 tips that we're giving ourselves as well as you to keep on the right path!
1) Think of it positively. Don't think of how far you've got to go, just take one day at a time. If you have a defeatist attitude from the get go you will be waiting for yourself to fail and therefore probably will. YOU CAN DO IT!
2) Don't assume that all healthy foods are boring. Maybe have a look on Pinterest or on other blogs for recipe inspiration. Healthy food doesn't just consist of salad leaves and apples!
3) Keep a food diary. You don't have to write every detail about every item of food down but just what you have eaten that day and, if you really want to, the calories that it contained.  We recommend the MyFitnessPal app as it tells you all the information necessary about the food that you've eaten including things that you wouldn't usually think of like salt content etc. That way you can just keep an eye on what you've eaten and honestly who wants to write down on paper that they've eaten a cheeky packet of Mars Bars in one day!

STEP 3: WAKE UP EARLIER
It's something we all long for but very few have achieved... the ideal sleeping pattern. You end up going to sleep a bit later than usual which causes you to wake up later than usual, which in turn means that you're not tired until later, GAH it's a vicious cycle!
I am the most horrible person to be around in the morning because I hate being woken up with a fiery passion, but this year we're both going to make a conscious effort to sort out our awful sleeping patterns because sleeping in all morning is just not okay! Think of all the things you could do in that time!

STEP 4: READ MORE

When I was in the early years of secondary school, a lot of people used to think of reading as boring and just laugh when they were asked what the last book they read was. But reading is such a good way to learn and broaden the horizons! I do love to read and when I get in to a good book it pretty much takes over my life, but the simple truth is I just don't do it enough! A lot of people nowadays spend so much time on technology whether it be on laptops or on their phone so I've decided for a few hours every evening I am going to stay clear of all technological devices (even turn them off if need be, I know drastic, but I'm serious!), put on some candles and just read a good book! Not only is it nice to just be immersed in a good story but it's also a good way to have some you time with no distractions, not to mention it supposedly helps you sleep, so really it's win win!

STEP 5: BE NICE TO PEOPLE/SMILE MORE
It sounds so silly to say because I think very few people deliberately go out of their way to be nasty to people but at the same time, very few people go out of their way to be NICE to people either.
A lot of the time I take my bad moods out on the people close to me, let alone other people around me, so this is something that I am really going to work on this year. Even if it's just taking some time on my own to relax when I'm feeling a bit down rather than bringing everyone else down with me.
Pay someone a compliment or do a little thing to help someone else every day and you will feel so much better about yourself. It's true that when you are nice to people it makes you feel good about yourself and your friends will thank you for it!
Also, don't let things get you down too much. It's hard not to be pessimistic because in life, being a pessimist is being a realist, but if you always expect the worst you will miss out on the best. Don't worry so much about things that are out of your control, just SMILE.
